If I were you I'd print the directions and save the two files Symantec provides for download (nis2004xp_reg_removal.reg and scripten.exe) on your hard drive, disconnect from the internet, do the uninstall, then install a different version of NIS or totally different program before you reconnect to the internet. ![]() It's a bit complicated, but not really that hard if you just plod along following the directions. I don't know if the cause of this problem originated with Dell or Symantec, but I've seen a few posts on various websites saying that NIS 2004 has some issues with Windows XP. If you don't want to give up yet, you might try uninstalling the program following Symantec's instructions for uninstalling NIS 2004 when Add/Remove programs hasn't worked. Until now, I wouldn't have thought of using any other product, but I'm going to look at Zone Alarm and a few other firewall and anti-virus programs to install on the replacement system when it arrives. I got to the point where I wasn't willing to spend any more time wrestling with the software and possibly doing "who-knows-what" to the system registry so I called Dell's customer care. Luckily I'm within the 21-day window for the "Total Satisfaction Return Policy" so Dell is doing an exchange - sending me a new tower with the same configuration, minus Norton Internet Security.
